Vitamin D3 is also known as cholecalciferol. It is very important for our body. It plays a vital role in maintaining body functions and make our bones healthy. Vitamin D3 is the only vitamin that is produced by the human body itself when ultraviolet rays of sun strike to our skin then it produced vitamin d3 in our body. People also know vitamin d3 as the sunshine vitamin.
Vitamin D3 prevents our body from different diseases. It plays a very important role in our health. The most important role of vitamin d is to maintain the calcium and phosphorus level in our body.



It also to treat those conditions where people have a low level of vitamin d in blood or some hereditary conditions where the body doesn’t give a response to parathyroid hormones. It also defends our body from several diseases like rickets and osteomalacia, both are caused due to the low level of vitamin d in our body.

High blood pressure and cancer can also occur due to the low level of vitamin d in our body. Vitamin D3 helps our kidneys to recycle the phosphate back into the blood which supports the blood to become at the right potential of Hydrogen.


Common Diseases due to Vitamin D3 Deficiency :

there are two common diseases that cause due to vitamin D3 deficiency: Rickets and Osteomalacia.

Rickets :

Rickets is a disease that commonly affects children due to the vitamin d deficiency. It makes our bones soft and also make them weak. It makes the bones of inappropriate angle in children, just like bow-shaped. You can see the children who have rickets, their legs are bow-shaped. Which is caused due to the low level of calcium and phosphorus as well as lack of vitamin d.

Osteomalacia :

Osteomalacia is a disease which occurs in adults due to the vitamin d deficiency. It also weakens bones and muscles. Most of the people include elder or obese.

Vitamin D3 Side Effects :

Serious side effects of vitamin D3 :

  1. An allergic reaction to rash or itching.
  2. Severe dizziness.
  3. Swelling happens to face, throat, and tongue.
  4. Trouble in taking breathe.
  5. heart rhythm changes or increasing heartbeat.




Rare Side Effects:

It doesn’t happen very often, Vitamin D can cause :

  1. Can make our mouth dry.
  2. Feel a headache.
  3. Oftenly do Vomiting.
  4. Feel weakness and drowsiness in the body.
  5. Fatigue.

Vitamin D3 Dosage :

According to doctor’s recommendation, we should not take vitamin d3 more than 4000 IU a day unless your doctor prescribes you.

It’s good time to take a vitamin d with a food. It depends on the prescription form of vitamin D. So, consult with your doctor or pharmacist that what is better for you.

If you are osteoporosis patient and your age are above than 50 years old, You should take 800IU to 100 IU ( 20 TO 25 mcg ) a day of vitamin D.

For treatment of rickets in children, Doctors recommends giving your child vitamin D between 12,000 and 50000 IU  ( 0.3 to 12.5mg a day )


Vitamin D3 Overdose :

If you suspect an overdose, you should contact the doctor or emergency room immediately.
